Please note: Many of these vehicles may have had carburetted versions alongside their fuel-injected models, so it’s essential to verify the specific model and year when looking for a vehicle with single-point or throttle-body injection in South Africa. Additionally, technology evolves, and newer models are equipped with more advanced fuel injection systems like multi-point or direct injection, which offer improved fuel efficiency and performance.

Examples of vehicles that support Single-point or throttle-body injection:

*The earliest and simplest type of fuel injection, single-point simply replaces the carburettor with one or two fuel-injector nozzles in the throttle body, which is the throat of the engine’s air intake manifold. For some automakers, single-point injection was a steppingstone to the more complex multipoint system. Though not as precise as the systems that have followed, TBI meters fuel with better control than a carburettor and is less expensive and easier to service.

Types of cars that support Port or Multipoint Fuel Injection

*Multi-port fuel injection (MPFI) and port fuel injection (PFI are more advanced fuel delivery systems compared to single-point or throttle-body injection (TBI). MPFI and PFI systems inject fuel directly into each cylinder’s intake port or runner, allowing for more precise fuel delivery and better engine performance. These systems became more prevalent in the automotive industry as technology advanced.

Type of cars supporting Sequential Fuel Injection:

*Sequential fuel injection, also called sequential port fuel injection (SPFI) or timed injection, is a type of multiport injection. Though basic MPFI employs multiple injectors, they all spray their fuel at the same time or in groups. As a result, the fuel may “hang around” a port for as long as 150 milliseconds when the engine is idling. This may not seem like much, but it’s enough of a shortcoming that engineers addressed it: Sequential fuel injection triggers each injector nozzle independently. Timed like spark plugs, they spray the fuel immediately before or as their intake valve opens. It seems like a minor step, but efficiency and emissions improvements come in very small doses.

Types of cars supporting Direct Injection:

*Direct fuel injection (DI) is a more modern fuel delivery system that sprays fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder, rather than into the intake manifold or port. This system offers increased fuel efficiency and engine performance.
